Occasion cakes - monkey in a bed - Patricia Burns photography

Like many children growing up, my eldest grandson had (and still has) a favourite and much loved soft toy. For Daniel it’s been a monkey, who is now somewhat raggy and battered and is affectionately known in the family as ‘Monks’.

So it wasn’t really a surprise that Daniel asked for a birthday cake that featured a monkey … or in this case several monkeys. His favourite book at the time was Seven Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed so I decided this would be the theme for the cake.

The figures were tricky and time consuming to make, but all the effort and time invested was more than worth it when Daniel got to see it.
