For those of you unfamiliar with the The Gruffalo story, it is told in a wonderful book written by Julia Donaldson with incredible illustrations by Axel Scheffler.
It is basically a story about a mouse that takes a walk in the woods. It’s been remarkably successful and has actually sold more than 13 million copies.
Making the cake itself was fairly routine as was the fondant layer that formed the cake covering and the base for the figures. The figures however were a challenge and this was a cake that really did take a huge investment of time. This was the first proper attempt I had made at making figures.
